de profundis clamavi

for wind ensemble

10′

commissioned by the University of Mississippi Wind Ensemble, David Willson, conductor.

“De profundis clamavi” (loosely translated ‘From the depths, I cried) is music of desperation. From the opening bars, the ensemble shrieks and yells, gradually fading into intimate, quiet cries.

The piece is dedicated to Betsy Bruening, my constant.
